Brown’s is a lively and purposeful School. Every child is encouraged to become involved in a wide range of activities and to respect the achievement of others. All pupils are given an opportunity to undertake different duties. It is hoped that they will be able to gain from these experiences and thereby act responsibly towards each other, their family and their neighbours. We encourage visits to local shops, banks and libraries.
The pupils have had great success participating in an adventure programme called Challenger Troop; this can also lead to a BTEC qualification too. They look forward to horse riding at a local stables and they also enjoy access to the indoor swimming and sports facilities at the Walnuts Leisure Centre, Orpington. Our Careers Officer has arranged college placements for our pupils and we have had great success here. Qualifications have been achieved eg. Diploma in Fisheries at Hadlow College. Our pupils have had work experience placements in the local community eg. Mechanics Garage on Bromley Common.
Brown’s pupils carry out regular fund raising activities. Recent donations have been made to charities such as Demelza House, Cancer Research, The Ebola Crisis and The Dyspraxia Foundation. Pupils are also involved in making cakes for a local Homeless charity.
The pupil voice is heard through the School Council. Regular meetings to discuss pupils’ very worthwhile ideas and suggestions for our community, ensure that their voice is heard and responded to.
